How I helped the Birmingham Dogs Home with a marketing consultancy project – by Victoria Landjova (B.Sc. International Business with Language)

The B-Enterprising Team recently ran an initiative to help the Birmingham Dogs Home with a marketing consultancy project. Victoria Landjova, a first year International Business undergraduate applied to join
the project and now reflects back on her experience working with the charitable organisation.

Victoria: After about
a month of working on Birmingham Dogs Home Marketing Consultancy, it has
officially come to an end. I started the challenge with the intention to put
myself outside of my comfort zone, while also helping my local community, and I
am so happy I took part!

Birmingham
Dogs Home is a charity that helps ‘lost and starving’ dogs and ensures they
find a better home in a new loving family. The consultancy entailed designing a
logo, web design, strapline, and social media strategy for the new veterinary
clinic of the organisation. Even before the challenge started, I was excited
about it as I am a dog lover myself, therefore helping a community that I felt
personally connected to sounded like a rewarding experience. The Challenge
started with an introductory talk, outlining the objectives and what was
expected of us. We also received some training in brand strategy processes, how
to present ideas and were given examples of successful marketing campaigns. We
were then allocated into teams where each of us took a certain task to manage.


I loved how
organised the consultancy felt. We had meetings with the organiser each week or
when not possible we could present our ideas and receive feedback. We even got
to visit the home and see the dogs and the clinic ourselves! Personally, I
thought it really gave us a feel of what working within Marketing will be like
and as I have an interest in the sector, I found it an enriching experience.

The
consultancy was finalised with a presentation of the ideas we have gathered
over the month, which was also followed by feedback from the organiser on the
ideas. Personally, I loved the insight into the world of Marketing and the
potential challenges and opportunities it provides. I believe I still have a
long way before I can be successful in the field, but the Consultancy gave me a
great head start!
